Port Authority Accepts Offer For Money To Study Cross-Harbor Tunnel
NY1, October 17, 2007
The Port Authority is once again looking into building a new tunnel under New York Harbor -- but just to transport freight.
Two years ago, the PA rejected the idea for a Cross Harbor Freight tunnel when it was offered federal money for a study. But now, the Port Authority has decided to accept $10 million to be put toward examining ideas for moving freight between the city and New Jersey.
One of those proposals includes building a tunnel between Jersey City and Brooklyn. The project could cost as much as $7 billion.
