MoveNYNJ is dedicated to the creation of the Cross Harbor Rail Freight Tunnel.
MoveNYNJ is a coalition of concerned leaders from New York's business, labor, environmental, community and planning sectors dedicated to improving the region's freight transportation system through the construction of a Cross Harbor Rail Freight tunnel underneath New York Harbor.
The tunnel is the most crucial infrastructure investment for our region's future growth and sustainability. Freight movement through our region is projected to increase 70 percent or more in the next 20 years. The choice is ours to make today - highway gridlock or long term investments that enable us to move freight by rail, move trucks off the road and move our economy forward for growth.
The Cross Harbor Rail Freight Tunnel would provide a Hudson River crossing to connect freight railroads in New Jersey to railroads in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Such a connection would enable freight to travel to east-of-Hudson destinations by rail, rather than truck. See Benefits of the Tunnel.
MoveNYNJ was initiated to promote the region's interests in Washington as Congress considers reauthorization of the major federal transportation spending bill, the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century ("TEA 21" or "TEA 3"). See Why Now?
